2014

Rochdale’s David Walker lifted the 2014 Milton Perry Trophy at CPA Social and Bowling Club, Loveclough. He beat homester, Brian Hargreaves 21-19 in a top class final earning himself £200.

After single figure victories in rounds 1 and 2 and a straightforward 21-10 win in round 3, David was pushed all the way by CPA’s Peter Brine in the semi-final, but prevailed 21-19.

Peter had previously run out from 17-4 down against Alan Cliffe in his quarter final.

In the other half of the draw, Brian overcame 2013 winner Peter Worrall 21 -16 in Round 2, but stared defeat in the face when teammate Steve Bolton lay for 20-14 in the quarter final. However, Brian won the 26th end with his last bowl and ran out for a 21-18 victory.

A 21-8 winning margin in the semi-final was a surprise considering that Aaron Harrison had earlier beaten three of CPA’s best players in previous rounds.

Milton Perry’s son and main sponsor, Jeff presented the prizes at the end of a very hot and successful day. Thanks also to local bowls supplier, Jack Slater and an anonymous donor who also sponsored the tournament.
